Baseball: Florida Tech Downs UMass Lowell, 11-6
Manton has three hits, scores twice for River Hawks in loss

LOWELL, Mass. (Mar. 19, 2008) – Tim Manton (Swansea, Mass.) had three hits and scored two runs but Florida Tech defeated UMass Lowell, 11-6, Wednesday afternoon in college baseball action at Hall/Seminick Field.

The River Hawks are 3-4 on their Florida trip and fall to 3-10 overall with the loss. The Panthers improve to 21-8-1 with the win.

Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored to lead Florida Tech. Mitch Saum (Carterville, Ill.) also had two hits, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. J.D. Davidson (Naples, Fla.) and Michael Demma (Coral Springs, Fla.) each homered for the Panthers. Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a two-run triple in the seventh.

Manton was one of three River Hawks with multiple hits. Taylor von Kriegenbergh (Stoneham, Mass.) and Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each collected two hits for UML. Tim Keene (Berlin, N.H.) was 1-for-4 with two RBI on the afternoon.

The Panthers scored single runs in the second and third. Florida Tech plated three in the fourth, two more in the fifth and put the game away with four runs in the seventh.

The River Hawks opened the scoring in the game with a run in the top of the first, and plated runs in the fourth (1), fifth (3) and sixth (1).

Tyler Carman (Jupiter, Fla.) got the win for the Panthers, allowing two runs on four hits over 1.2 innings of relief. Jake Koch (Orlando, Fla.) got the start for Florida Tech. Koch surrendered four runs, three earned, on five hits over 4.1 innings of work.

Ted Haley (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss for the River Hawks, giving up six runs on four hits over three innings of work out of the bullpen. Kyle Davis (Rochester, N.H.) started for UML, lasting four innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits.

The River Hawks conclude their 2008 Florida trip Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Barry University. UML is scheduled to open its 2008 home schedule Monday afternoon at LeLacheur Park against Assumption. The twin-bill is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
