Baseball: Stonehill Upends UMass Lowell, 7-3 in First Game of Doubleheader
Nate Weber had three hits and three RBI in win for Skyhawks

LOWELL, Mass. (May 5, 2008) – Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI as Stonehill defeated UMass Lowell, 7-3, in the first game of a Northeast-10 doubleheader Monday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

The Skyhawks improve to 25-21 overall and 16-13 in the NE-10 with the win. The River Hawks fell to 25-23 overall and 17-12 in the NE-10 with the loss.

Weber was one of five Skyhawks with multiple hits, and led the way with three hits and three RBI. Ryan Healey (Lynn, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Shane Franz (Cazenovia, N.Y.) had two hits and two RBI. Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Stonehill scored three runs in the top of the first on two hits and two UML errors. Franz plated the first run with a single through the left side. Weber knocked in two more with a triple to center.

The Skyhawks added a run to their lead in the second on a hit-and-run RBI single through the right side. Franz with an RBI single and Weber with a sacrifice fly plated the fifth inning runs.

The River Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single and scored two batters late when Peter Onorato (Clarence Center, N.Y.) reached on an error by the shortstop.

Scott Hackett plated the Skyhawks final run of the contest with a triple to right center field. Weber scored on the triple.

UML scored twice in the seventh on two hits, both runs coming on bases loaded walks. Felix Martinez (Miami, Fla.) and Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) drew the walks.

Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) got the win for Stonehill, tossing a complete game, to improve to 8-4 on the season. Giusti allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out 10.

Senior James Barry (Chelmsford, Mass.) took the loss for UML, allowing seven runs, three earned, on 11 hits over 6.2 innings. Barry had one strike out and one walk.
