Baseball: Wolsteholme, UMass Lowell Downs Saint Michael’s, 8-3
Wolstenholme has three hits; one of four River Hawks with multiple hits

LOWELL, Mass. (May 2, 2008) – Peter Wolsteholme (Fall River, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI and UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael’s, 8-3, Friday night in non-conference baseball action at LeLacheur Park.

The River Hawks have won five of seven and improve to 25-21 overall. The Purple Knights had their two-game winning streak snapped with the loss and fall to 11-25 on the season.

Saint Michael’s opened the scoring and led 3-0 after four innings. But the River Hawks then rallied with eight unanswered runs, four coming in the bottom of the seventh, for the win.

Wolstenholme was one of four River Hawks to record multiple hits. Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.), Jered Notargiacomo (Newburyport, Mass.) and Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) each had two hits. Burns had a game-high three RBI.

Greg McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt.) had a team-best three hits for the Purple Knights. Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass.) had two hits.

Peter Ruccinski (Dracut, Mass.) got the win in relief for UML. The freshman right hander pitched three innings and allowed one run on five hits.

Matt Monico (Tewksbury, Mass.) started on the mound for the River Hawks, but got a no decision. Monico allowed two run, both unearned, on five hits and struck out five over five innings.

Mike Robert (Wellesley, Mass.) got the loss for Saint Michael’s. Robert allowed six runs on 11 hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out three and walked one.

The River Hawks return to the field Saturday afternoon at Stonehill. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. Friday’s game was the final regular season game for the Purple Knights.
