White allows just two hits to record first shutout and victory of season
LOWELL, Mass. (April 5, 2008) – Dan White (Southboro, Mass.) pitched a two-hit shutout as UMass Lowell defeated Southern New Hampshire, 2-0, in game one of a Northeast-10 baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
The River Hawks improve to 9-14 overall and 6-3 in the NE-10 with the win. The Penmen fall to 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10 with the loss.
White faced 31 batters, four over the minimum, and fanned two over nine innings of work. The sophomore right hander retired 13 in a row after a first inning double by Bill Murray (Canton, Mass.)
Offensively the River Hawks broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs on three hits. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) knocked in the first run for UML with a ground out to first.
Taylor von Kriegenbergh (Stoneham, Mass.) plated the second run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Tim Manton and Tim Keene, both who singled, scored the runs for the River Hawks.
Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) and von Kriegenbergh each collected two hits in game one for UML.
Greg Lyons (Canton, Mass.) took the loss for the Penmen. Lyons surrendered two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts over seven innings of work.
