Baseball: Barry, UMass Lowell Downs Pace, 6-2, in First Game of Doubleheader
James Barry works 8.2 innings; River Hawks score five runs in sixth

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (April 26, 2008) – James Barry (Chelmsford, Mass.) allowed just two runs over 8.2 innings on the mound as UMass Lowell defeated Pace University, 6-2, Saturday afternoon in the first game of a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Finnerty Field.

The River Hawks improve to 21-19 overall and 15-8 in the NE-10 with the win. The loss drops the Setters to 27-15-1 overall and 16-6-1 in the NE-10.

Barry improved his record to 3-4 on the season in allowing two runs on 13 hits over 8.2 innings. The senior right hander fanned seven and did not walk a batter.

Offensively the River Hawks scored five runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh. UML had four hits and sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth.

Peter Onorato (Clearance Center, N.Y.) plated three of the five runs with a three-run double down the left field line. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Tim Keene (Berlin, N.H.) also had RBIs in the sixth.

Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) singled in Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) to plate UML’s sixth run on the contest. Burns reached base on a one-out walk.

Mike Rigoli (Parsippany, N.J.) and Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, Conn.) each had three hits and a run scored for the Setters, who scored single runs in the second and ninth innings.

Pace starter Zach Dayton (North Falmouth, Mass.) surrendered three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings to take the loss. Dayton struck out six and walked just one.
