Baseball: Pace Earns Split Defeating UMass Lowell, 5-3, in Game 2 of Doubleheader
Sean Burns was 3-for-4 with two RBI in loss for River Hawks

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (April 26, 2008) – Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) had three hits and two RBI, but Pace defeated UMass Lowell, 5-3, Saturday afternoon in the second game of a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Finnerty Field.

The Setters improve to 28-15-1 overall and 17-6-1 in the NE-10 with the win. The River Hawks have dropped three of their last four and fall to 21-20 overall and 15-9 in the NE-10.

Pace scored two runs in the second, one in the third, and two more in the eighth. UML plated a single run in the third and two in the top of the seventh.

Matt Rigoli (Parsippany, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with two runs to lead Pace. Laurence Flammia (Massapeaqua Park, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Flammia had an RBI single in the second and plated another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Burns knocked in two runs for UML with a single to right field in the seventh. He also singled in the third and sixth innings. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) joined Burns with multiple hits. Wallace was 2-for-4.

Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, N.Y.), Pace’s starting pitcher, gave up one run on five hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Mackenzie King (Blairstown, N.J.) earned the win for the Setters, to improve to 3-2. King did not allow a run on two hits over 2.2 innings of work. He struck out six of the 11 batters he faced and walked just one.

Kyle Davis (Rochester, N.H.) allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings but got a no decision for the River Hawks. Davis walked three and struck out two.

Derek Anderson (Dracut, Mass.) took the loss for the UML, allowing two unearned runs in the eighth inning. Anderson, who did not record an out or a hit, walked two to fall to 1-3 on the season.

The River Hawks and Setters conclude their three-game weekend series Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game UMass Lowell will officially retire the number of David Boutin, a former ULowell catcher who passed away in 1990 after a battle with cancer.
