Anthony Santos has three hits and two RBI, Dan White pitches seven innings
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (May 1, 2008) – Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and UMass Lowell defeated Merrimack, 3-1, Thursday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action at Warrior Field.
The River Hawks have won four of five and improve to 24-20 overall and 17-9 in the NE-10 with the win. The Warriors had won three of four entering Thursday’s game, but fall to 17-25 overall and 12-15 in the NE-10 with the loss.
Santos had a game-high three hits and plated the first two runs of the contest with RBI singles in the first and third innings. Tim Manton (Swansea, Mass.) scored the River Hawks first inning run. Peter Wolstenholme (Fall River, Mass.) scored in the third.
With one out in the sixth innings Santos singled down the left field line. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) knocked Santos in with a double to right field.
Dan White (Southboro, Mass.) got the win for the River Hawks to improve to 4-4 on the season. White struck out four and allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings of work.
Mark Sakelakos (Peabody, Mass.) worked two scoreless innings to earn his fifth save of the season.
Dylan Ellis (Gloucester, Mass.) took the loss for Merrimack to fall to 0-1 on the season. Ellis allowed all three runs on seven hits over six innings.
Brendan Pyburn (Peabody, Mass.) was the only Warrior with multiple hits. He was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ryan Shepard (Andover, Mass.) was 1-for-4 and had the only RBI for Merrimack with a fourth inning double that plated Pyburn.
The River Hawks return to the field Friday for a doubleheader at LeLacheur Park. UML plays Assumption College at 3:00 p.m. and Saint Michael’s College at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors next play Friday when they host American International at 3:30 p.m.
