Baseball: Franklin Pierce Shuts Out UMass Lowell, 10-0
River Hawks have just three hits in second loss to Ravens this week

LOWELL, Mass. (April 10, 2008) – Kevin Rivers (Bristol, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with three as Franklin Pierce shutout UMass Lowell, 10-0, in Northeast-10 baseball action Thursday night at LeLacheur Park.

The Ravens improve to 23-4 overall and 8-2 in the NE-10 with the win. The loss drops the River Hawks to 11-16 overall and 8-5 in the NE-10. The Ravens swept the home-and-home series with UML this week. The Ravens won 10-2 on Tuesday.

Rivers was one of three players with multiple hits for the Ravens, who scored 10 runs on 12 hits in the game. Matt Anderson (Medford, Mass.) also had three hits – he was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Scott Savastano (Plymouth, Mass.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

FPU had three multiple run innings, scoring two runs in the second and sixth and three runs in the eighth. Rivers provided the big hit in the third with a two-run single. Jake Christman (Newton, Mass.) doubled in a pair in the eighth.

The Ravens scored two runs on delayed steals of home plate – Savastano in the first and Cliff Hicks (Merrimack, N.H.) in the sixth.

The River Hawks had just three hits off FPU starting pitcher Mike Adams (Orchard Park, N.Y.). Adams fanned six in 7.2 innings to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Jeffrey Maloney (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season. Maloney surrendered five runs, all earned, on eight hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

The River Hawks return to the field Friday when they host Mercy College at 1:00 p.m. The Ravens are next in action Saturday to host Bentley in a doubleheader (12:00 p.m.).
