Baseball: Bryant Defeats UMass Lowell, 8-4, in NE-10 Battle
Tim Keene has three hits in defeat for River Hawks

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 22, 2008) – Tim Keene (Berlin, N.H.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, but Bryant University defeated UMass Lowell, 8-4, Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action.

The Bulldogs have won five straight and improved to 32-14 overall and 19-5 in the NE-10 with the win. The River Hawks had their two-game win streak snapped and fall to 20-18 overall and 14-7 in the NE-10 with the loss.

Bryant opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning, and never trailed in the game. The Bulldogs also scored three times in the seventh.

Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.), one of four Bulldogs with multiple hits going 2for-5 with two RBI, plated two runs with a single to centerfield in the first.

Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with three RBI in the game. He had two run-scoring singles – in the third and seventh – and plated another run with a sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth.

Jason Alexander (Smithbury, Conn.) also collected three hits and a run scored for Bryant. Pat O’Connor (Mattapoisett, Mass.) had two hits and scored three times.

Keene knocked in UML’s first run of the afternoon with an RBI single in the fourth. Keene’s single scored Tim Manton (Swansea, Mass.), who joined Keene with multiple hits in the contest.

Manton, who was 2-for-3, had an RBI double as the River Hawks scored twice in the eighth. Peter Wolstenholme (Fall River, Mass.) extended his hitting streak to six games going 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth.

Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.) got the win for Bryant allowing three runs on four hits over 7.1 innings. Loh walked three and struck out one.

Jeffrey Maloney (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss for UML surrendering five runs, two earned, on six hits over 5.1 innnings. Maloney struck out three, but walked five.

The River Hawks and Bulldogs meet against Thursday night at LeLacheur Park. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. Neither team plays on Wednesday.
