Greyhounds collect 13 hits in victory
LOWELL, Mass. (May 2, 2008) – Assumption College had five players with multiple hits and defeated UMass Lowell, 4-0, Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action at LeLacheur Park.
The Greyhounds have won two straight and improve to 19-27 overall and 10-20 in the NE-10 with the win. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the River Hawks, who fall to 24-21 overall and 17-10 in the NE-10.
The Greyhounds struck first in the top of the first inning with a run on two hits. Mike Baillargeon (Worcester, Mass.) singled to open the inning, and scored two batters later on a double by Tim Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.).
Assumption scored three on four hits in the top of the fifth. Jeff Barbale (Charlton, Mass.) and Devin Murphy (Waterbury, Conn.) each RBI singles with the bases loaded. Scafidi was hit by a pitch to plate a run in the fifth.
Michael Colebrook (Leicester, Mass.) got the win to improve to 6-2 on the season. Colebrook allowed just five hits and struck out four over nine innings.
Matt Monico (Tewksbury, Mass.) got the loss, his first of the season to fall to 2-1. Monico allowed four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Derek Anderson (Dracut, Mass.) pitched the final 4.2 innings for UML. He did not surrender a run on six hits and struck out three.
The Greyhounds out-hit the River Hawks 13-5 in the game. Baillareon, Murphy, Derek Migrants (Ayer, Mass.), Mike DiReda (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and Shawn Frigon (Worcester, Mass.) eacdh had two hits on the afternoon for Assumption.
The River Hawks host Saint Michael’s Friday at 7:00 p.m. at LeLacheur Park. Friday’s contest was the final game of Assumption’s regular season schedule.
