Baseball: Adelphi Turns Back River Hawks, 13-8
Keene, Wallace Combine for Four RBI in Loss

MIAMI SHORES, FL (Mar. 16, 2007) – Sophomore 2B Matt Kenney batted 3 for 5 and drove in eight runs to lead Adelphi University over UMass Lowell, 13-8, Sunday in a non-conference baseball clash at Barry University’s Feinbloom Field.

With the loss, UML slipped to 3-8 entering Tuesday’s single game against Dowling College at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. The Panthers improved to 5-9.

UML relinquished a 5-0 lead, surrendering four runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth. The River Hawks committed seven errors which resulted in surrendering 10 unearned runs.

Sophomore 1B Peter Wolstenholme (Fall River, MA) batted 3 for 4 with one run to lead UML while junior 3B Tim Keene (Berlin, NH) went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI.

Sophomore RF Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, NY) went 2 for 5 with two RBI and two runs while freshman 2B Sean Burns (Colchester, VT) hit 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI. Senior CF Tim Manton (Swansea, MA) batted 2 for 5 with a run.

Sophomore P Dan White (Southboro, MA) slipped to 0-3 as he scattered six hits, eight runs (two earned) and four walks over 5.2 innings. Senior P Mike McLasky earned the victory to improve to 1-2, allowing three hits, one walk and one run while striking out one in three innings.

Senior C Ryan Boelsen batted 2 for 6 with three RBI for the Panthers while junior Mike Colonna went 2 for 6 with one run and one RBI. Sophomore DH Chris Weidlein also hit 2 for 6 with a run.

UML jumped out to a 5-0 lead as Wallace singled in sophomore 1B Taylor von Kriegenbergh (Stoneham, MA) and later scored on an error. Keene and senior 2B Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, MA) each had RBI hits in the fourth while Wallace hit into a fielder’s choice to add one more for a 5-0 cushion.

The Panthers, however, countered with four runs in the fourth behind an RBI single by senior 3B Joe Maranino and a bases-loaded double by Kenney.

AU added four more in the sixth, led by a three-run double by Boelsen, for an 8-5 cushion. Following an RBI single by sophomore LF Peter Onorato (Clarence Center, NY) in the bottom half, Kenney cracked a two-run single in the seventh and a two-run double in the eighth to keep UML at a distance.
