Baseball: Manton Named to Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team
Senior outfielder chosen as NE-10 All-Star for fourth straight year

Tim MantonLOWELL, Mass. (May 12, 2008) – Tim Manton (Swansea, Mass.) was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team, the league announced.

Manton led the River Hawks with a .311 average, 60 hits, 12 doubles and 21 stolen bases. He tied for the team led with 34 runs scored.

On the mound he went 3-0 with a 0.71 earned run average in 6 appearances, three starts. The lefty allowed just two earned runs in 25.1 innings pitched and held opponents to a .242 average.

Manton finishes his career as the program’s all-time leader in games played (200), at-bats (832), singles (220) and stolen bases (85). His 272 career hits are just 10 shy of the school record of 282 set by Allen Mottram (2000-03).

Manton was named to the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team for the first time in his career, but makes his fourth appearance on an NE-10 All-Conference team. He was a First Team All-Star in each of the last two years (2006 and 2007), and was named to the league’s Third Team as a freshman (2005).

The River Hawks finished the 2008 season 26-24 overall. UML finished fourth in the Northeast-10 with an 18-12 record and advanced to the conference playoffs. Their season was cut short, however, with a 7-1 loss to Pace in the first round.
