(1983) - One of the truly outstanding athletes of the mid-1930's at Lowell Textile Institute, John Bogacz, Class of 1936, was a man for all seasons. A three-sport athlete, Bogacz left his mark on all three sports. Considered one of the top defensive ends in Textile football history, John was a four-year letterman for coach "Rusty" Yarnell's teams that compiled a 9-19-4 record from 1931-35. The captain of the team his senior year, Bogacz was a very strong running back on offense. A tough defensive guard for the Textile basketball team, John always drew the top defensive assignment every night. He helped contribute to a four-year record of 44-29, including a 17-5 season in 1935-36, the second best in LTI history. He had a high-point game of nine in Textile's 64-13 win over AIC during that 17-5 campaign. Bogacz was also a three-year letterman for Yarnell's baseball nine playing a tough third base. After graduation, he spent two years in the Navy serving in the Pacific theatre as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class. |
