(1982) - A true all-around athlete (1933-37) at Lowell Textile, Louis J. Bassett earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. A four-year starter in both football and basketball, he also served as team captain in both sports. In football, although small in size, he was a fine running back. As a forward in basketball, he helped lead his school to one of their best seasons with a 17-5 record his junior year. Bassett played several infield positions for the Textile baseball team. Active in other school affairs besides sports, Bassett served in his senior year as the class treasurer. Following graduation, he worked for Glenbar Fabrics in Lowell before entering the Navy. Bassett reached the rank of lieutenant while serving on a Navy destroyer (1943-45). |
