Hadder, Coscia Combine for 56 Kills
COLCHESTER, VT (Sept. 22, 2007) – Freshman OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) compiled 30 kills while freshman OH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) added 26 kills to lead UMass Lowell in a 3-0 win at Saint Michael’s and a 3-1 loss against Adelphi Saturday afternoon in a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at the Tarrant Athletic Center.
With the split, UML stands at 5-10 overall entering Tuesday night’s Northeast-10 Conference home clash with Bentley (7:00). St. Michael’s, which suffered a 3-0 loss to Adelphi in the final match of the day, slipped to 4-8 while Adelphi improved to 10-2.
In the win over Saint Michael’s, Hadder compiled 16 kills and 10 service points as UML prevailed 30-15, 30-25, 30-25. Coscia chipped in 14 kills and four blocks while sophomore DS Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) and senior OH Kristina Martell (Chelmsford, MA) led the defense with 16 and 11 digs, respectively.
Sophomore S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) dished out 40 assists and served 12 points.
Senior MB Leslie Herwig led Saint Michael’s with eight kills while junior L Stephanie Smetana led the defense with 17 digs.
In the loss to Adelphi, the Panthers overcame a 28-30 loss in the first game to take the next three 30-27, 30-25, 30-18. Hadder led UML 14 kills and 12 digs while sophomore OH Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) chipped in 13 kills and seven blocks.
Coscia added 12 kills while Eide had 12 digs and served 12 points. Rondeau compiled 42 assists and 11 digs.
Brittany Addeo compiled 50 assists for Adelphi.
