BROOKVILLE, NY (Apr. 20, 2008) – Junior CF Stacey Lajoie (Gardner, MA) batted a collective 5 for 7 with one run and one RBI as UMass Lowell suffered a 3-0 and 4-2 sweep Sunday in a non-conference softball twin bill at C.W. Post.

The losses extended UML’s losing skein to six games entering Tuesday’s Northeast-10 doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire (3:00). C.W. Post, riding a six-game winning streak, improved to 34-12.

In the opener, the Pioneers scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and held the River Hawks to just one hit en route to the win.

Sophomore 2B Amanda Aiello batted 3 for 3 with a run to lead CWP while senior SS Kelsey Cooley went 2 for 4 with one RBI and senior 1B Holly Eringis 2 for 2 with a run.

Senior P Samantha Yodowitz improved to 19-6 as she allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five. Sophomore P Lindsay Farmer (Kingston, NH) took the loss as she scattered 10 hits, three runs (earned) and four walks while striking out one to slip to 8-9.

In the nightcap, CWP broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the sweep. Junior 1B Melissa Hippo started the rally with a sacrifice fly to score sophomore CF Melissa Medina. Senior 3B Katie Younes added an RBI single and Yodowitz later scored on a wild pitch.

UML pulled one back in the seventh behind an RBI single by Lajoie, but could muster no closer.

Lajoie led the UML bats, hitting 4 for 4 with one RBI and one run. Freshman P Nicole Monroe (Townsend, MA) took the hard luck loss as she scattered just four hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out four to slip to 5-4.

Freshman P Christina Berardi improved to 14-6 as she allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) and a walk while striking out five. Medina led CWP, hitting 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs.
