Tanguay Hits 3 for 6 With a Run
BRIARCLIFF, NY (Apr. 25, 2008) – Senior LF Laurie Tanguay (Lowell, MA) collectively batted 3 for 6 with one run as UMass Lowell suffered 2-0 and 4-1 losses at Pace University Friday afternoon at Pace Field.
The losses halted a string of four straight wins for the River Hawks, who slipped to 22-20 overall and 15-7 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s home twin bill against Saint Rose (1:00). The Setters improved to 24-18 overall and 12-12 in the Conference.
In the opener, junior CF Christina Pane batted 2 for 3 and hit a two-run single in the second inning to lift the Setters. Junior 1B Patricia Hurley batted 2 for 4 while senior 2B Dana Jo Ketchel batted 1 for 2 with one run.
Junior P Kiryl Shada earned the win to improve to 11-8 as she allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out eight en route to the shutout. Sophomore P Lindsay Farmer (Kingston, NH) scattered nine hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out one.
In the nightcap, the Setters scored two runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach as Hurley scored on an error and junior C Tricia Alluto had an RBI double.
The River Hawks opened the scoring in the first inning behind an RBI double by senior 1B Jachael Guanci (Everett, MA) which scored Tanguay.
Pace evened matters in the bottom half behind an RBI single from Alluto, and added another run in the third behind an RBI single to right field by senior 3B Alton Frisbee.
Tanguay led UML at the plate, batting 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run while Guanci batted 1 for 3 with an RBI and sophomore RF Jill McAllister (Lowell, MA) 1 for 2.
Freshman P Alicia Parlon earned the win to improve to 5-3, scattering four hits, two walks and a run while striking out two. Freshman P Nicole Monroe (Townsend, MA) took the loss, slipping to 7-4, as she allowed seven hits, four runs (two earned) and a walk while striking out two.
Alluto batted 2 for 3 with two RBI for the Setters while Frisbee also hit 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI.
