Softball: Le Moyne Too Much for River Hawks in 6-0, 8-0 Sweep
River Hawks Held to Five Hits

LOWELL, MA (Apr. 27, 2008) – Freshman P Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, NY) threw a two-hitter and senior P Sarah Reed (De Witt, NY) followed with a three-hitter as Le Moyne College swept UMass Lowell, 6-0 and 8-0, Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill at River View Field.

With the losses, UML slipped to 24-22 overall entering Monday’s regular season finale at home against Southern Connecticut (3:00). Le Moyne extended its winning streak to 17 straight games to improve to 38-8 overall and 25-1 in the NE-10.

Junior CF Stacey Lajoie (Gardner, MA) led the River Hawks, batting 1 for 3 and drawing three walks.

In the opener, Vanacore struck out seven and allowed a walk in addition to two hits to improve to 11-0. The Dolphins scored two runs in the first inning as sophomore CF Danielle Van Gorder (Vestal, NY) singled and later scored on a groundout while Reed singled and scored on an error.

Le Moyne added two more in the third inning behind a two-run single from sophomore SS Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, NY).

Van Gorder led Le Moyne, hitting 3 for 4 with one run while junior 3B Caitlin O’Neill (Pittsford, NY) went 3 for 3 with one run. Schweikert and senior 1B Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, NY) each batted 2 for 4 with two RBI while Reed batted 2 for 4 with two runs and senior RF Kortney Meadows also 2 for 4.

Sophomore P Lindsay Farmer (Kingston, NY) took the loss as she surrendered 14 hits, six runs (five earned) and a walk while striking out four.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins broke a scoreless drought in the fifth inning with four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Murphy and a two-run home run to right field from Schweikert.

In the sixth, Murphy cracked a grand slam to right field to put the game out of reach.

Reed led Le Moyne on both ends, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out four. She also batted 4 for 4 with two runs while Murphy hit 2 for 4 with two runs in addition to her grand slam. Schweikert went 2 for 4 with two RBI and one run.

Freshman P Nicole Monroe (Townsend, MA) took the loss as she scattered 10 hits, eight runs (four earned) and three walks while striking out two to slip to 8-5 this year.

Freshman Hilary Hopkins (Poway, CA) batted 2 for 2 to lead UML while Lajoie went 0 for 1 with two walks.
