Softball: UMass Lowell’s Mahoney Named NE-10 Pitcher of the Week
Senior Hurler Goes 2-1 With 1.40 ERA

LOWELL, MA (Apr. 18, 2007) – Kristen Mahoney (Burlington, MA), a senior pitcher on the UMass Lowell softball team, was named the Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday as she led the River Hawks to a 6-2 clip last week.

Mahoney posted a record of 2-1 and maintained an ERA of 1.40 while scattering 21 strikeouts, four earned runs and five walks in victories over Bentley (7-2) and Saint Anselm (5-2) and a loss to No. 21 C.W. Post (6-3).

In the win over Bentley, Mahoney allowed four hits, one walk and no earned runs while striking out eight. She yielded four hits, one walk and no earned runs while fanning seven in the win over Saint Anselm.

In the loss to C.W. Post, which halted UML’s eight-game win-skein, Mahoney struck out six while surrendering seven hits, four earned runs and three walks.

Mahoney also added timely offense, batting 5 for 8 with five RBI and two runs in the 5-2/8-5 sweep of Saint Anselm.

Senior 3B Laurie Tanguay (Lowell, MA) was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll as she batted .435 (10 for 23) and slugged .739 with nine RBI, six runs and two home runs.

Tanguay batted 2 for 4 in five of the six games, highlighted with three RBI and three runs in a 7-2/9-3 sweep over Bentley. She also had three runs and five RBI in the wins over Saint Anselm and one RBI in the 6-3 loss to C.W. Post.
