Pitts Shines in Sprints; Mundry Wins Long Jump
CAMBRIDGE, MA (Apr. 20, 2008) – Freshman Shanika Pitts (Easton, MA) won the 200 meter dash and placed second in the 100 meter dash to lead the UMass Lowell women and men’s track and field teams at the MIT Invitational Saturday.
A handful of UML athletes competed in the Invitational while most of the team competed in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
Pitts won the 200 in 25.57 seconds and also moved on to finish runner-up in the 100 meter dash in 12.37 seconds.
Pitts was one of two winners on the day for UML as senior Gillian Mundry (Methuen, MA) captured the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 0.5’’.
Also performing well was junior Sarah Brassard (Oxford, MA), who placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 12:21.82; as well as sophomore Courtney Lincoln (Mansfield, MA), who placed second in the 100 meter hurdles (15.68) and fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.09).
Senior Jason Gustin (Wilmington, MA) took fourth in the 800 meters in 1:58.12.
