Women’s Cross Country: DaLomba Seventh, UML Sixth at UMD Shriners Invitational
River Hawk Junior Keeps 6:01 Pace

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA (Sept. 15, 2006) – Junior Christina DaLomba (Marstons Mills, MA) placed seventh overall and led the UMass Lowell women’s cross country team to sixth place in the team standings Saturday afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational.

The River Hawks compiled 214 points (7, 21, 39, 63, 84) and finished behind defending NCAA Division III champion Amherst College (42), Keene State (145), Stonehill (160), Trinity (186) and Brandeis (206).

DaLomba covered the 5K course in 18:39 – a 6:01-per-mile pace – while senior Amanda Sousa (Peabody, MA) placed 22nd overall and 21st among scoring runners in 19:32. Freshman Sarah Bonomo (Tewksbury, MA) placed 41st/39th in 19:32 while sophomore Jenna Banks (North Attleboro, MA) placed 67th/63rd in 20:00 and junior Sarah Merullo (Wakefield, MA) 89th/84th in 20:33 to cap the scoring.

Freshman Elizabeth Carr (Randolph, MA) took 91st/86th in 20:34; junior Sarah Brassard (Oxford, MA) 97th/92nd in 20:44; and senior Holly Johnson (Tyngsboro, MA) 102nd in 20:52.

Jennifer Adams of Keene State topped the field with a time of 17:45. The field included 222 runners.

In the subvarsity race, freshmen Ivory Farren (Tyngsboro, MA) placed 23rd in 20:36 and Jennifer Nicoloro (Waltham, MA) 44th in 21:33.

UMass Lowell enters the Iona Meet of Champions next Saturday.
