Women’s Basketball: River Hawks Stave Off Saint Michael’s, 46-41
Carmon Double-Double Lifts UMass Lowell

COLCHESTER, VT (Jan. 19, 2008) – Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael’s College, 46-41, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball clash at the Ross Sports Center.

The win was the third in the last four games for the River Hawks, who improved to 9-8 overall and 4-8 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday’s game at American International (5:30). Saint Michael’s slipped to 9-7 overall and 6-6 in the NE-10.

Carmon’s output marked her third double-double of the year as she converted 7 of 10 field goals and dished out a team-high four assists.

Sophomore G Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA) chipped in eight points while senior F Liron Asher (Givataim, Israel) grabbed eight rebounds – six offensive – and scored seven points.

Sophomore F Michelle Otey led the Purple Knights with 12 points, hitting 6 of 10 field goal attempts.

UML led at the break 27-19 and stretched its lead to 34-25 with 13:01 left to play. The Purple Knights, however, used a 9-0 run to knot the score 34-34 with 7:49 left to play. Sophomore F Michelle Otey fueled the run with six points.

The River Hawks, however, broke a 39-39 tie with 2:51 left with a 3-point bomb by Valentine and a layup by Carmon, sandwiched by a jumper from senior C Amy Pitchers, to take a 44-41 lead with 1:57 remaining.

UML had possession with 25.3 seconds, but a turnover gave the Purple Knights a chance to tie. However, a 3-point attempt by senior G Allison Dunn rattled out, and Carmon converted both ends of a one-and-one to seal the win.
