Women’s Basketball: River Hawks Capture Third Straight, Defeat Saint Rose, 80-72, in Regular Season Finale
Carmon Compiles 22 Points, 18 Rebounds

LOWELL, MA (Feb. 26, 2008) – Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) compiled 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead UMass Lowell over the College of St. Rose, 80-72, Tuesday night in the Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball regular season finale at the Costello Athletic Center.

The win was the third straight for UML, which improved to 13-14 overall and 8-14 in the NE-10, but fell short of making the NE-10 Tournament. Southern New Hampshire (9-13) defeated Saint Michael’s 69-59 in overtime in Colchester, VT to seal the 12th and final seed for the Tournament.

Saint Rose slipped to 13-14 overall and 9-13 in the NE-10.

Carmon converted 9 of 15 field goal attempts and grabbed seven offensive rebounds and 11 on the defensive end. Sophomore G Rahshala Valentine (Cincinnati, OH) added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists while sophomore G Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA) also scored 12 points, all in the first half.

Sophomore F Jen Valente (Prospect, CT) chipped in 11 points and five rebounds while shooting 4 for 7 from the floor while junior F Antonnea Robinson (West Haven, CT) had 10 points (4-4 field goal shooting).

Senior F Emily Gottstein (Albany, NY) led all scorers with 26 points as she converted 10 of 20 field goals and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior F Ashley Anderson (Portland, ME) added 17 points and 11 rebounds, hitting 6 of 9 field goal attempts, while junior G Dana Brown (Elmont, NY) chipped in 15 points and dished out a career-high eight assists.

UML posted a slim 15-11 lead on offensive rebounds, but made the most of it, outscoring the Golden Knights 16-7 off second chances. UML also enjoyed a sizeable advantage off the bench, outscoring Saint Rose 30-1 behind Berry and Valente.

UML led 60-47 with 11:12 left to play, but the Golden Knights answered with a 15-7 run to cut the deficit to 67-62 with 4:20 left to play. Anderson and Brown led the surge with four points apiece.

The Golden Knights came within four points (72-68) with 1:36 left to play when Gottstein converted a conventional 3-point play, but Valentine meshed all six of her free throw attempts over the final minute to seal the win.
