Carmon Double-Double Leads River Hawks
LOWELL, MA (Nov. 20, 2007) – Junior C Anna Florent (Fort Wayne, IN) and sophomore G Alexis Keller (Harrington Park, NJ) each scored 14 points as Saint Michael’s College defeated UMass Lowell, 65-63, in overtime Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
With the loss, UML slipped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the NE-10 entering Sunday’s clash at Bentley (1:30). Saint Michael’s improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Conference.
Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) matched her career-high with 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while shooting 7 for 10 from the floor. Junior F Antonnea Robinson (West Haven, CT) added 12 points while sophomore G Rahshala Valentine (Cincinnati, OH) chipped in 10 points and six assists.
Sophomore F Michelle Otey (Southborough, MA) scored 13 points and snared 12 rebounds.
The Purple Knights led 46-41 with 8:48 left in regulation when UML responded with an 8-1 spurt, fueled by four points from sophomore G Tricia Tacey (Glastonbury, CT), to grab a 49-47 edge with 4:43 left. St. Michael’s rallied and posted a 56-53 lead with 2:30 left, but UML used a 6-2 spurt, capped by a 3-point shot by Valentine to lead 60-58 with 40 seconds left.
After Carmon and Florent each converted one free throw, Florent hit a running layup with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.
UML struggled from the floor in the extra session, misfiring on eight attempts while Saint Michael’s shot 2 for 4.
Saint Michael’s led at the half, 32-25.
