Carmon With 17 Points, Asher 13
MANCHESTER, NH (Jan. 30, 2008) – Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) compiled 17 points, six rebounds and five assists as UMass Lowell defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 67-52, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball clash at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
With the win, UML improved to 10-10 overall and 5-10 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s game at Franklin Pierce (1:30). The Penmen slipped to 11-9 overall and 7-8 in the Conference.
Carmon converted 6 of 10 field goals and 5 of 7 attempts from the free throw line in 26 minutes. Senior F Liron Asher (Givataim, Israel) added 13 points and five rebounds while shooting 6 for 9.
Sophomore F Julia Houghtaling led the Penmen with 16 points as she converted 4 of 7 field goals and all eight of her free throw attempts. Senior F Sara Tucker added 13 points and three assists on 5 of 8 field goal shooting.
Behind Carmon, UML outscored SNHU 36-22 in the paint and 28-15 off turnovers. UML forced 23 turnovers out of the Penmen while committing 17 resulting in the margin.
Additionally, the River Hawks outscored SNHU off the bench, 40-13, led by Asher’s 16 points. Freshman G Tamaria Menefee (Boston, MA) chipped in nine points and dished out five assists in 17 minutes while freshman G Krissy Little (Concord, NH) also scored nine points in only seven minutes.
UML led 35-31 with 12:56 left to play and used a 10-2 spurt to snatch a 45-33 cushion with 10:01 left to play. Little led the run with a pair of treys while Menefee added a layup and assisted on a layup by junior F Shaina Berry (Friendswood, TX).
The River Hawks never let the Penmen within eight points the rest of the way.
UML led at the break, 31-25, behind nine points from Carmon.
