Robinson Leads UML With 16 Points
LOWELL, MA (Dec. 10, 2007) – Sophomore G Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA) scored a season-high 14 points – including a 3-point shot with nine seconds left – as UMass Lowell defeated C.W. Post, 73-71, Monday night in a non-conference women’s basketball clash at the Pratt Center.
With the win, the River Hawks improved to 3-5 and extended their non-conference winning streak to seven straight games dating back to last season. UML visits Felician Wednesday night (6:00).
C.W. Post slipped to 3-4.
Berry shot 5-for-8 from the field and 4 for 7 from 3-point range and also dished out a career-high six assists.
Junior F Antonnea Robinson (West Haven, CT) scored 16 points to lead UML, converting 6 of 8 field goal attempts, while senior F Liron Asher (Givataim, Israel) added 11 points (4-8 field goal shooting), four rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore F Jen Valente (Prospect, CT) chipped in a season-high 10 points as she meshed all five of her field goals.
Senior G Basimah Thompson led the Pioneers with 26 points (9-13 FGs) and five assists while junior F Whitney Murrer added 13 points and seven rebounds, and freshman G Emily Hall 12 points.
Berry’s 3-pointer capped a game-ending 12-2 run by UML, which trailed 69-61 with 6:17 left to play. After layups by junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) and Asher, Berry buried a trey to cut the lead to 69-68 with 4:02 to play.
Hall then converted a jumper, and following a missed trey by sophomore G Jasmine Moore, Robinson hit a jumper with 42 seconds left to bring UML within a point, 71-70. Asher then came up with a pivotal steal, and following a timeout, Berry converted the game-winner.
UML shot a season-high .563 for the game (27-48), including .667 in the first half (.14-21), while the Pioneers shot .379 overall (22-58). UML committed 22 turnovers opposed to CWP’s 13, but the River Hawks’ torrid shooting offset the Pioneers’ advantage.
The River Hawks also outscored the Pioneers 34-20 in the paint and 24-15 off the bench.
