Carmon’s Double-Double Lifts River Hawks
LOWELL, MA (Feb. 9, 2008) – Junior G Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, OH) scored a career-high 22 points, including seven points in the final 1:20, to lead Le Moyne College over UMass Lowell, 57-54, Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
With the loss, UML slipped to 10-13 overall and 5-11 in the Conference entering next Saturday’s home game against Bentley (2:00). Le Moyne improved to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in the NE-10 and host Saint Anselm Saturday (1:00).
Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) led UML with 16 points and 10 rebounds as she converted 6 of 11 field goals. Freshman G Krissy Little (Concord, NH) came off the bench to score 12 points while sophomore G Rahshala Valentine (Cincinnati, OH) chipped in nine points and dished four assists.
Gladstone converted 6 of 8 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws and also grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists. Sophomore F Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forkes, NY) added 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Turnovers plagued the River Hawks as they committed 21 opposed to Le Moyne’s 10, enabling the Dolphins to outscore UML 30-9 off turnovers. The River Hawks compensated by outrebounding Le Moyne 38-22, including 12-3 on the offensive glass.
The Dolphins ended the first half with a 12-3 run to take a 34-26 lead into the break, and opened the second half with eight straight points to post its largest lead (42-26) with 15:09 left to play. Coryea and Gladstone each scored four points to open the second half.
UML responded with 20 straight points, fueled by six points each from Carmon, Valentine and Little, to take a 46-42 lead with 6:16 to play.
The River Hawks led 51-49 with 3:57 left on a trey by Little, but misfired on five of their next six attempts while Le Moyne connected on 6 of 8 free throws in the final 1:53 to seal the win.
