Women’s Basketball: River Hawks Misfire in 65-41 Loss at No. 25 Franklin Pierce
Valente Leads River Hawks With Season-High 10

RINDGE, NH (Feb. 2, 2008) – Sophomore G Johannah Leedham (Ellesmereport, England) scored 14 points and dished out five assists as No. 25 Franklin Pierce University defeated UMass Lowell, 65-41, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball tilt at the FPU Fieldhouse.

With the loss, UML slipped to 10-11 overall and 5-11 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday’s clash at Stonehill. The Ravens improved to 17-4 overall and 12-4 in the Conference.

Sophomore F Jen Valente (Prospect, CT) led the River Hawks with 10 points and four rebounds, converting 4 of 6 field goal attempts.

Junior G Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmereport, England) added 12 points and four steals while shooting 4 for 6 while junior G Vanessa Power (Mildura, Australia) chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, hitting 4 of 7 field goals (4 of 6 from long range).

The Ravens shot .500 for the game (22-44), including .522 (12-23) in the first half which saw them build a 35-21 cushion at the break.

UML struggled from the floor, shooting .273 (15-55). The River Hawks, however, outrebounded FPU on the offensive glass, 19-7, which led to an 11-5 edge on second chance points.

UML was also plagued by 27 turnovers while forcing the Ravens into 23 miscues. FPU had the advantage, however, with a 28-16 edge in points off turnovers.

The Ravens raced out to a first-half lead of 31-14 with 5:22 until the interval and never looked back. Johannah Leedham scored 10 points in the run while Power added nine, all 3-point shots.
