Women’s Basketball: Carmon, Late Surge Lifts UMass Lowell Over Felician, 67-55
Carmon Double-Double Lifts River Hawks

RUTHERFORD, NJ (Dec. 12, 2007) – Junior C Revital Carmon (Bat-Yam, Israel) scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead UMass Lowell over Felician College, 67-66, Wednesday night in a non-conference women’s basketball clash in Rutherford, NJ.

With the win, the River Hawks improved to 4-5 and extended their non-conference winning streak to eight straight games dating back to last season. UML enjoys a 16-day hiatus before the Valley Cup Classic on Dec. 28-29 at Merrimack College. On the 28th, the River Hawks meet Goldey-Beacom (5:00) and face Glenville State on the 29th (2:00).

Felician dipped to 1-7.

Carmon converted 5 of 10 field goal attempts and dished out three assists while sophomore G Rahshala Valentine (Cincinnati, OH) added nine points and three assists and sophomore F Jen Valente (Prospect, CT) nine points, hitting all four field goal attempts.

Senior F Dee Dee Smith led the Golden Falcons with 22 points and nine rebounds while shooting 7 for 16 from the floor and 8-10 from the free throw line.

The River Hawks collectively shot .511 from the field (23-45), including .533 in the second half (8-15). Felician struggled from the floor, shooting .367 for the game (18-49).

Both teams were plagued by turnovers (25 apiece), but the River Hawks outscored Felician 15-2 on second chances and, led by Carmon, enjoyed a 30-16 advantage in the paint.

With the score knotted at 51-51 with 4:30 left to play, UML scored 10 straight points, led by a layup and two free throws by Asher, who scored all six of her points in the final 3:23.  The Golden Falcons shot 0-3 and committed six turnovers over that span.
