River Hawks Visit Saint Michael’s Saturday
LOWELL, MA (Jan. 16, 2008) – Freshman G Molly Griffiths (Walpole, MA) scored 20 points and junior G Beth Plasski (Fall River, MA) added 19 as Assumption College defeated UMass Lowell, 87-58, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
With the loss, UML slipped to 8-8 overall and 3-8 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s game at Saint Michael’s (1:30). Assumption improved to 15-3 overall and 9-2 in the Conference.
Sophomore G Megan Berry (Ipswich, MA) led the River Hawks with nine points.
Griffiths converted 9 of 10 field goals in 23 minutes while Plasski shot 7 for 9 from the floor, including 3 for 4 from 3-point range. Sophomore F Kayla Parker (Sanford, ME) chipped in 12 points on 4 of 7 field goal shooting and junior G Tricie Gardner (Dartmouth, MA) dished out nine assists in addition to six points and six rebounds.
Senior F Charde Floyd (Worcester, MA) grabbed seven rebounds, including the 1,000th of her career to highlight the Greyhounds’ win.
Assumption collectively shot .633 for the game (31-49), including a sterling .704 in the first half (19-27). UML struggled from the floor, shooting .350 (21-60). The Greyhounds also outscored UML 21-3 from 3-point range.
Assumption broke the game open midway through the first half. Leading 22-18 with 10:51 left to play, the Greyhounds ended the half with a 31-7 run to post a 53-25 cushion at the break. Griffiths led the run with 12 points and Plasski added 11.
