(1983) - The finest pitcher ever to put on a University of Lowell baseball uniform, Billy Moloney, Class of 1978, was a four-year letterman for head coach Him Stone's team (1975-78) and continued his baseball career as a member of the Boston Red Sox organization.

The nation's earned run average leader (Division II) in 1978 with a 1.01 ERA, Moloney won 18 games while losing just five during his four years on the hill for the Chiefs. He hurled 209 innings over four seasons, walking just 62, striking out 179, while allowing just 150 base hits. When he graduated in 1978, Moloney held eight single-season pitching records and 20 career hitting and pitching records.

An outstanding hitter as well, Billy played first base when not pitching. He hit a steady .282 in 108 games with 11 home runs and 75 RBIs.

Signed off the sandlots in 1979 by the Boston Red Sox, he started with Elmira in the New York-Penn League and moved steadily upward through the organization to play for Pawtucket of the International League (Triple AAA). During his five seasons in the minor leagues, Billy has fashioned a 25-13 record with 21 games and a 2.82 ERA.

Moloney graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1978 and coached with Jim stone for three seasons.
