(1979) - Francis (Frank) Georges, a native of Lowell, compiled a fine two-sport career at Lowell State College (1958-62) winning four varsity letters in basketball and three in baseball. The former LSC hoop captain ranks 20th in both career scoring and field goals scored. In baseball, Georges was primarily a third baseman and pitcher but during his college career, played at every position on the field. His career batting average was .292 with his best mark coming during his senior year when he led all college hitters in Lowell with an outstanding .412 average. Georges was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Award (1962) and also the recipient of the Vital Award for three years for both athletic and academic achievement.
Georges was very active in sports since graduation as a basketball official and a baseball umpire. He returned to LSC to serve as the head basketball coach for six years. During that stint, Georges led LSC to their best basketball showing with a 16-6 record during the 1968-69 campaign.
