Bob held the school record for the 50-(21.34) and 100-yard (46.45) freestyle events. At one time he also held the 200-yard record. A dominating freestyler, Bob help the top ten times in the 50- and 100-yard events and has five of the top ten times in the 200-yard freestyle.
The New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association (NEISA) champion in the 50-yard freestyle as a sophomore (1979-80), Bob was an All-American in the 100-yard freestyle and New England champion in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard as a junior (1980-81).
After electing not to compete during the 1981-82 season, Bob was the New England champion in the 100-yard freestyle, second in the 50-yard freestyle, and part of the winning 400-yard medley relay a fifth-year senior (1982-83). he earned All-American honors in the 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay swimming the freestyle leg.
